How You Can Help

The Game Programming Wiki is a community driven project. It depends on your contributions to keep the content interesting, correct, relevant and up-to-date.

Anyone can edit and create content here as long as it is reated to game programming. We ask that you create an account, just to keep the spammers at bay, but we welcome everyone's contributions.

If you want to help out with GPWiki, here's a few ideas to get you started.

Quick Fixes

The Special:RecentChanges page (linked in the nav box) lists the latest edits to the site. Take a look, see if any of the recent edits are spammy or have mistakes.

The Special:Random link in the nav box will send you to a random page on the wiki. This is a good way of discovering pages that are off the beaten track. Some of these pages may need tidying or linking to the rest of the wiki.

Even if you don't have the time or knowledge to fix a problem, you can flag a page as needing work. Adding a page to a category makes it easier for other editors to find and fix problem.

The categories and tags which list problem pages are:

  • Category:Pages with Broken Markup - Adding the {{MarkupFix}} template tag to a page places it in this category. It is a list of pages with sections (normally code listings) which are broken or badly formatted. Using the <syntaxhighlight> or <source> tags, these sections can be fixed fairly easily.
If you fix one of these pages, remove the {{MarkupFix}} tag from the page and it will no longer appear in the list.
  • Category:Stubs - Adding the {{Stub}} template tag to a page places it in this category. These pages are short articles that need to be expanded.
  • Category:Deprecated - Adding the {{Deprecated|LINK_TO_BETTER_PAGE}} template tag to a page places it in this category. These articles contain out of date information. The content may still be useful, but it is better to direct the reader to newer content where possible.
  • Special:LonelyPages - This page lists pages on the wiki that don't have any links pointing to them. Linking these pages from the rest of the wiki helps readers browse the site without relying on Google to find content.

Expanding Articles

If you can clarify something in an existing article, go ahead. If you can add more information, feel free. If you feel that there is a problem with something you read, use the talk page for the article to discuss it with other users before making major changes.

  • Category:Stubs - These pages are short articles that need to be expanded.

New Articles

If you'd like to write some fresh content for GPWiki, that'd be awesome! We'd love to see what you have for us. If you're wondering what to write about, there are a couple of pages that can help out.

  • Special:WantedPages is an auto-generated page that lists references from other wikipages that don't exist yet.
  • Pages_Wanted is a page that lists requests for content from other wiki users.
